"Yes. Neurofeedback is non-invasive—sensors are placed on the scalp to read your brain's electrical activity and the games give you feedback on a TV screen, but nothing is sent into the brain. Neurofeedback is a form of learning, and also a kind of brain workout, so it's common to feel tired afterward. Think of it like physical therapy for the brain, strengthening some areas so that others can relax. There is nothing painful or intrusive. After a few sessions, you may start to feel much better! For most, training is actually fun. If you do experience any uncomfortable symptoms, we can easily adjust the protocol until it feels comfortable and right for you."

The QEEG recording itself is quite gentle, although it certainly looks funny to have 20 electrodes on your head! Many clients have commented that it feels like getting your hair done. A gentle skin cleanser is used to help remove oils or dead skin cells for a clear electrical signal, and a sticky conductive paste holds each electrode in place. Your hair will be messy and sticky afterward, although I will do my best to remove all the paste before you leave.
Once the sensors are placed, I start the recording. I’ll ask you to sit quietly with your eyes open for a few minutes, and then with your eyes closed. You will be given some questionnaires that ask about specific brain functions. This becomes part of the data that helps guide your neurofeedback training protocol.
The full appointment takes about 90 minutes. And no, I cannot read your thoughts! Although I can see basic things like if you are feeling sleepy, very tense or stressed, focused or zoned out. Once everything is gathered, it takes a few days for me to analyze the results. I will reach out when your customized training protocol is ready and we can start your training!

This varies by person and by what we are targeting. As a general guideline, noticeable changes typically begin to emerge around 10–15 sessions, with more stable, lasting results building over 30 or more. Some people notice shifts much sooner. Because we start with a brain map, we have a clear picture of what we are working with and can give you a more individualized sense of what to expect before you commit to a course of training. Generally speaking, 3 months can give you meaningful and lasting change.

The answer depends on your specific insurance plan and coverage. Sometimes it can be covered as an out-of-network expense or through a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA). I do not bill insurance companies directly; however, I can provide you with a monthly "superbill" that you can submit to your provider for potential reimbursement if your plan allows it.

For most people, yes. The brain does not know whether it is in an office or at home—what matters is the quality of the signal, the precision of the protocol, and the consistency of training. Because I develop your protocol from your individual brain map and monitor your sessions remotely, you are getting the same clinical rigor as in-person training with the added flexibility of training on your own schedule. The 30-day lease model also allows for much more frequent training than most people can manage with in-office appointments, which can actually accelerate progress. Questions or technical problems can usually be resolved quickly through the check-ins.

No. A diagnosis is not required to begin neurofeedback. Many of my clients come with a clear diagnosis—such as ADHD, PTSD, an anxiety disorder, or autism—and others simply know that something feels off and they want to understand their brain better. The brain map itself is informative regardless of diagnostic history, and your protocol is built from what we actually see in your EEG, not from a label.
